Meredith combines 8 years of experience in architecture with her sensibility as an artist and knowledge as an environmentalist. She is LEED AP BD+C and certified as a building analyst and envelope performance professional.
Not just interested in the present trendiness of energy awareness, she has shaped her life around environmental thinking. After working in the field of architecture for years she designed and built the first straw bale house on Mount Desert Island and continues to passionately pursue methods of sustainable design and ways to reduce the impact of her own daily life.
Meredith’s passion for sustainable design stems from her love of the outdoors she developed on the Maine coast. Having grown up as the sixth generation of her family to summer on Mount Desert Island, she has a strong attachment to the beauty of this area. It was here that she learned the importance of places that raise our awareness beyond ourselves. It is in the natural world that we see that nothing is isolated in it’s function and efficiency is a basic requirement. By this philosophy she finds depth of understanding in combining her passions, just as her seeking out innovations in building technology brings her back to the wisdom of ageless beauty.
Buildings create protection we need from the elements but the architecture should not let us forget we remain a humble element of that environment.
